The stars came out for the 18th annual Environmental Media Association Awards. They rolled up in hybrid cars and green fashion to walk down the red carpet at Ebell Theatre. Guests included Rosario Dawson, Nicole Richie, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Joel Madden, Lance Bass, Amy Smart, Maria Bello and Wilmer Valderrama.
Actress Amy Smart, dawned a beautiful eco-friendly black gown, said she was inspired to live green “Once we all realized that there’s been so much destruction and pollution - especially once Al Gore came out with An Inconvenient Truth, and then realizing that the last 8 years, the Bush administration hasn’t done anything about it - it’s now become everyone’s responsibility. I don’t care how much money you make, I don’t care where you live - it’s really easy to be green. You can find products at grocery stores everywhere, now.”
Julia Louis-Dreyfus discussed her hybrid car, solar panels she installed in her home and her happiness over the presidential election. “I think we all know now that the environmental movement is here to stay. And that global warming is real. And I’m so thrilled that we have president elect Barack Obama who does believe that global warming is a true issue”
If there is one thing I can’t stand, it is when Hollywood becomes political. Yes, I’m talking to you Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Oprah.
I’m all for living in harmony with our planet, reducing pollution, eating organically and living healthy but to think that EITHER party is actually concerned about the environment is a joke. This is about political power and hundreds of billions of dollars that will be awarded to energy companies.
Hollywood stars need to get out of their warped little world and begin researching politics beyond what they see in their own circle or on network TV. They portray themselves as self-righteous ambassadors with no concept of the reality behind our Government and the powers that run it.
I’m really trying to restrain myself from going into a political rant about Hollywood stars and the corruption and lip service of both parties. I had better stop now.
I’m taking a deep breath…..
