I was very excited to learn that Columbia Pictures will start filming Angels and Demons this upcoming February, with Ron Howard again as director. This is the follow up film to mega blockbuster The Da Vinci Code, based on the popular Dan Brown novels.

Tom Hanks will also be back to play code-cracking Harvard professor Robert Langdon.

The book takes you on a wild ride through the streets of Rome, (which is why I love it so much), all within one day in an attempt to uncover secrets of murder and mayhem by an underground society called the Illuminati.

According to Variety, Columbia parent Sony Pictures was so psyched by the international box-office success of The Da Vinci Code ($758 million in worldwide ticket sales) that the studio snapped up the rights to Angels and Demons and hired Oscar-winning scribe Akiva Goldsman to transform it into a sequel. Goldsman, who will reportedly make seven figures for his efforts, also adapted The Da Vinci Code.

Angels and Demons is scheduled to release summer 2009. Oooh, I can’t wait!
