It’s scary when I hear about young women becoming diagnosed with cancer, a disease thought to befall the older population. The latest Hollywood celebrity to be diagnosed with breast cancer is Christina Applegate. You probably know this 36 year old actress for her role as Kelly Bundy on Married with Children in the 90s.
Luckily her cancer was caught in the early stages, thanks to her doctor recommending an MRI. Her cancer is not expected to be life threatening.
This is why all women should have their breast examined regularly even if breast cancer does not run in your family. Studies have shown that 70-80% of all breast cancers were contracted by women with no family history of the disease. And breast cancer is not just a woman’s problem. Every year almost 2000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer.
To reduce your risk of breast cancer schedule a yearly visit to your OBGYN and have her perform a breast exam as well as yearly mammograms starting at age 35.
