The New England Historic Genealogical Society, the oldest and largest nonprofit genealogical organization in the U.S., dug deep to uncover famous family connections between a few of our presidential candidates. Of course being a Ron Paul supporter my first thought was why he is not included in the list. He is still a presidential candidate, people! Anyhow, check out these interesting family ties.
Barack Obama is distant cousins with President George W. Bush and his father, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman and James Madison. Other Obama cousins include Vice President Dick Cheney, British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, Civil War Gen. Robert E. Lee and Brad Pitt.
Hilary Rodham Clinton who is from French-Canadian descent on her mother’s side has famous singers as distant cousins including Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morisette. She is also ninth cousins, twice removed, with Angelina Jolie and distant cousins with author Jack Kerouac and Camilla Parker-Bowles, wife of Prince Charles of England.
John McCain’s records are not as complete as the above two candidates, but we do know that he and first lady Laura Bush are sixth cousins.
It makes you wonder what famous people you’re related to.
