According to New York City police, actor Heath Ledger, 28, was found dead this afternoon in a Manhattan apartment owned by actress Mary-Kate Olsen.
At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at 412 Broome Street, Apartment 5A, in SoHo, for an appointment with Ledger. The masseuse was let in by a housekeeper, who then knocked on his door, but he did not answer. Both the housekeeper and masseuse opened the door and found Ledger naked and unconscious on the bed with pills scattered around his body. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called police.
Police do not suspect foul play and are unclear why the actor was in Mary-Kate’s apartment. She was in California at the time.
Australian native, Heath won critical acclaim for his role in Brokeback Mountain. He was married to actress Michelle Williams and together they have a two-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose.
Calls by The Times to Mara Buxbaum, a publicist for Mr. Ledger, and Steve Alexander, the actor’s agent, were not immediately returned this afternoon.
