Oprah WinfreyOprah Winfrey and Discovery Communications are going to start their own cable television network devoted to inspire viewers to “live their best lives”.

The new network, called OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, will be jointly owned by Harpo Productions and Discovery Communications, which is owned by Discovery Holding Co. and Advance/Network Programming.

Oprah will act as chairwoman of OWN, which means she will have control of the content and branding. Adding to her multi-media empire, Winfrey also controls her top-rated daytime talk show, feature films, O, The Oprah Winfrey Magazine, a satellite radio program and oprah.com.

“Fifteen years ago, I wrote in my journal that one day I would create a television network, as I always felt my show was just the beginning of what the future could hold,” Winfrey said in a statement.
