Just a week after Sacha Baron Cohen announced he was retiring his characters Borat and Ali G., he lands a starring role in a Steven Spielberg movie called The Trial of the Chicago Seven.

Cohen will play ’60s hippie satirist Abbott “Abbie” Hoffman who became famous as an anti-war activist who used comical and theatrical tactics to protest against the Vietnam War.

Hoffman was arrested for “conspiracy” and “inciting to riot” as a result of his anit-Vietnam war protests during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. He was among the group that become known as the Chicago Seven. All convictions were later overturned.

The movie is set to release in 2010.
