As a certified Pilates instructor and newbie “hooper” (hoop dancer) it was only a matter of time until someone likeminded combined the two disciplines into one dynamic class. As far as I know this class is only offered by a girl named Jen in the NYC area, but don’t be surprised if you start seeing a class like this in a gym/studio near you.

Hoopilates (\hüp-pə-ˈlä-tēz\) combines traditional strengthening Pilates movements with the fun cardio elements of hoop dancing. There is both standing and seated exercises, arm and waist hooping intervals, tricks and stretching. This is definitely not a boring workout, as a matter of fact you probably won’t even realize you are working out.

Hmmm, I think she is on to something here. I’m going to break out my hoop from the garage, call my hoop master girlfriend Chawn, and see if we can combined our expertise and create a hoopilates class of our own! Check it!
