Since I no longer work for a gym and therefore have no access to all its lovelies, (really, who needs a gym anyway?!), I took what little cardio base I had developed running on a treadmill and my new shiny black sneaks to the pavement and I hit the ground running, literally.
Curious legs wanted to know how far my little 25-30 minute loop around the neighborhood really was. My spacial relations and eyeballing distance abilities are as useful as me trying to reach a cereal box on the highest shelf at the supermarket, and therefore trying to figure it out on my own was a wash. I remembered an avid runner mentioning this website, MapMyRun.com, where you can track the distance of your run and even find cool, new routes to try. I’m not very analytical, but if you geek over pie charts and graphs you can even take your logging of your jogging to a whole new level.
It’s a nifty little site with tons of articles, running events and a community that puts you in touch with fellow local runners/joggers. I just dig the map features where I can track my distance. To my surprise I was running over 3 miles. A milestone for the girl who has never ran in her life until her mid-to-later twenties. I can also see other runners in my area and what routes they are taking, like one named “Death Run Around Back Bay”. I think I need to work up to that one. It’s over ten miles. Yikes!
Whether you’re a runner, jogger, biker or a just a walker MapMyRun.com has a lot of valuable tools and information for the novice to the seasoned marathoner. This site is Oodora approved!
