The FDA has failed the American consumers once again by allowing oxybenzone, another toxic chemical, into our sunscreens according to a new study released from The Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Oxybenzone is known to cause allergies, hormone disruption, cell damage, and low birth weight in baby girls whose mothers were exposed during pregnancy. The chemical oxybenzone helps other chemicals penetrate into the skin.

The Food and Drug Administration has known about this chemical, but has been deterred by lobbyists to report sunscreen safety standards for almost 30 years!

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) database, 600 sunscreens sold in the U.S. contain oxybenzone including brands you know such as, Hawaiian Tropic, Coppertone, and Banana Boat, as well as facial moisturizers with sunscreen.

And get this: when oxybenzone interacts with sunlight it causes free radicals to form causing cell damage which leads to premature aging. Isn’t sunscreen supposed to guard against that?! Ever wonder with the rising sales of sunscreens has lead to a rise in skin cancers?

Forgo the chemical ridden sunscreens and stick to a natural or organic alternative. if you plan on being out in the sun for more than 20 minutes, then apply the good stuff.
