This is a cute little gift for the holidays or even a birthday. You do all the measuring ahead of time, layer it in a gift jar, tie it with a bow, then present it as your own personal chocolate chip cookie recipe, complete with simple baking instructions.

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts, if desired
  • 1 quart wide-mouth glass jar

Sift the flour with salt and baking soda. Layer the dry ingredients into the jar, packing down firmly, Top with waxed paper and then chocolate chips and nuts. Cover and label with this recipe:

Chocolate Chip Cookies from (your name here)

  • 1 jar Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbs vanilla

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Carefully remove chips and nuts from the jar. Beat butter in a large bowl until fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then vanilla and beat again. Add dry ingredients from cookie mix, (except chocolate chips and nuts), and mix until blended. Gently stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop batter by teaspoonfuls, spaced 2 inches apart, onto a greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Bake 8-19 minutes or until lightly browned. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
