Sometimes it’s just too cold to play outside and your kids are getting anxious for something fun to do. I have the perfect indoor activity for times like these. And since Christmas is approaching, they can hang up and admire their creativity.

Here is an easy salt dough ornament recipe perfect for the Christmas tree.

Salt Dough Ornaments RecipeYou’ll need:

  • 1 cup flour, plus more for kneading
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • mixing bowl
  • cookie cutters, optional
  • toothpick or skewer
  • cookie sheet
  • paint, glue, sequins, glitter as desired
  • yarn or ribbon

Combine flour, salt and water. Mix together until dough is formed. Knead on a floured surface until elastic and smooth. If too sticky, sprinkle with a little flour, knead again and repeat just until stickiness is gone. Create desired shapes, then use a toothpick or skewer to make a hole toward the top of each one. Preheat oven to 250F. Place all shapes onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 2 hours. Remove from oven and let cool completely before decorating with paint, glue, sequins or glitter. Hang with yarn or ribbon.
