I have a theory that girls get all dolled up with their hair and makeup and clothes not to impress the guys, but to out-do other girls. I think there is something in our genetic makeup that makes us girls go a little bitchy-crazy-psycho at times.

We spend thousands of dollars each year coloring our hair, pedicuring our feet and buying the latest fashion trends that some magazine told us to buy. And we do it either to keep other girls from stealing the man we already have or to keep other girls away from the one we want. It’s a race to out-do the next chick. Girls check each other out constantly and do a lightning-fast subconscious analysis to see if we should be threatened. We look around to make sure that we are the hottest one in the room and if we’re not, well we had better invest more money into whatever it is that we don’t have (and of course the girl who was hotter is instantly a bitch in our eyes).

Fake boobs perhaps? That is the prerequisite in Orange County, California where I live. If you don’t have a boob job you are the minority. Maybe we need to be blond or have Angelina Jolie lips? We can always be thinner. If there was a procedure to make you taller, how many women to you think would signup no matter what the medical risks are? We “think” we know what guys want, but there isn’t a single type of beautiful girl.

And as my fiance has pointed out, although some guys may have a type of girl they like, there are many kinds of girls they find attractive. But even though I am in a secure relationship I must admit that I get jealous when I catch my guy checking out another girl, even if she is on TV or in a movie. It is ridiculous, I know, but I can’t help it. I know he doesn’t want to be with her and I know he loves me. Plus he always tells me that I’m beautiful, and he looks at me the same way. But somehow that isn’t enough. He’s just looking and that’s what guys do. They are visual.

If you had a Ferrari, you’d still look if a Lamborghini or Bugatti pulled up next to you. You may love your Ferrari and would never get rid of it, but you might still admire that Lamborghini just as you would a great painting.

Likewise, if a guy was married to the most drop-dead gorgeous woman in the world, he will STILL look if another beautiful girl walks by. I am convinced that it is instinctual and that instinct is one reason why the human race survived. Love and companionship is a relatively modern trait (well over the last 10,000 years or so), and has really been embedded into our psyche from a young age by parents, friends, and media. But I digress.

My point is, women are conditioned to size up the next chick. Even when we realize we are doing it, we don’t care. And if you say you don’t do it, you are probably that bitchy girl we all hate. So there!
