Gemina, Giraffe with crooked neckGemina, a giraffe with a distinctive crooked neck and one of the best loved animals at the Santa Barbara Zoo in California, has died. She was 21 years old.

The zoo put the animal to sleep on Wednesday.

According to the zoo, her illness was not believed related to her neck condition, although results of a necropsy will not be available for several weeks.

This Baringo Giraffe was born normally in the San Diego Wild Animal Park in 1986, but as she grew she developed a bend in her neck. The deformity does not cause her pain and is likely caused by a benign bone tumor in one of her joints.
