Can you guess what this Friday is? It’s spooky and mysterious is what it is. My two favorite events on the same night. Double the pleasure.
So if you haven’t guessed it’s Friday the 13th paired with the start of Carnival; the masquerade so eloquently outdone by the Venetians. Double the fun.
And what a fine pairing indeed, like a sliver of Saint Agur Blue cheese atop a sticky candied walnut. The sweet and salty combination is divine much like the masks and the mayhem of this Friday eve.
What I wouldn’t give to be in Venice during this Carnival. I’d put up with the freezing temps to be in this magical city once again. To roam the tiny labyrinth streets amongst the anonymous faces and imaging what it must have been like centuries ago in this crumbling city.
I’ve been drawn to collecting Venetian masks for a long time now. Granted I only have a few, but their beauty and intrigue has an erotic and devious undertone shrouded in mystery and mystic. The pomp and circumstance of pop art colors and glitter and the unknown behind the disguised caped figures adds even more appeal.
Combine wicked flirtatiousness with the spook of Friday the 13th and I’m in heaven. The only things that could top this night off is a bite of that Saint Agur Blue under a full moon.
Be safe my mischievous ones! There will be another Friday the 13th in March, and not again until November, so savor the spookiness while you have the chance.
