Courteney Cox, best known for her role as Monica Geller on the sitcom Friends and one of my favorite shows Dirt as Lucy Spiller, will be teaming up with Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence for a single-camera comedy series centered on a single 40-year-old mother with a 17-year-old son.

ABC has given a commitment for the pilot and Cox and Lawrence will executive produce the project. Production is set to begin in January with a possible premiere in mid season.

With Scrubs writer Kevin Biegel scheduled to lend his services to the project and Christa Miller who played Jordan on Scrubs possibly making an appearance, they will have all of the firepower to make this show a success.

My hope is that it doesn’t become a clone of CBS’s The New Adventures of Old Christine that seemed to have a similar premise of an aging sitcom funny woman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (formerly from Seinfeld) as Christine, that goes through midlife adventures.

I’m sure it will have a more sexy edge, a la DIRT, and in that category Courteney Cox can definitely deliver.

This is Cox’s first return to comedy since Friends said goodbye in 2004.
