Would you take romantic advice from a 9-year-old boy? It seems that this 4th grader has made a big name for himself with his relationship self-help book How to Talk to Girls.
It all started when Alec Greven wrote a 3rd grade paper that later turned into a handwritten pamphlet that sold at his school’s book fair for $5. It was the fair’s best seller. After an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show Ellen put Alec and his mom in touch with HarperCollins and How to Talk to Girls is now a $10, 46-page hardcover book. And Fox studios has just acquired the film rights to How to Talk to Girls.
He learned about relationships by watching boys on the playground. “They were having a lot of trouble getting girls to like them, so I wanted to write a book to kind of help them,” Alec explains.
His advice is simple and straightforward. “You gotta walk up to her casually. Then you want to say, ‘Hi,’ and if she says ‘Hi’ back, you’re off to a good start.”
Be wary of the “pretty girl”, says Alec. “Pretty girls are like cars that need a lot of oil.” He advises boys to pursue “regular girls”.
You can find his book on Amazon and Alec is donating part of his royalties to “Stand Up to Cancer” hoping to raise $100,000 for cancer research.
