This is history in the making people.

The Simpsons are officially the longest running American sitcom and will continue to be around for three more seasons, at least.

I don’t know anyone who currently watches The Simpsons, but I still see commercials for it, so I assume the show must be running strong.

“The cast is signed for three more years, so I would now say it’s about a 90 percent chance we’ll come back for at least one of those three,” Al Jean, the show’s executive producer, said. “I actually think it’s better than a 50 percent chance we’ll do three more years of this at least.”

If they renew for three more years that will make the TV show 23 years-old and I would have been eight when the show first aired, if I did my math correct. At least in Springfield Bart and Lisa never age. “Don’t have a cow, man” was the hottest catch phrase to hit my elementary school.

The Simpsons are tied for first right now with 20-season-long Gunsmoke, a television Western that ran from 1955 to 1975.
